After 4 years of waiting and build-up, we are now only 2 days away from the start of the greatest show on Earth. If you’re like us living in the Asia-Pacific, you have already planned your sleeping hours so that you catch the games during the ungodly early hours of the morning. If you live in Europe, then let us say that you are a lucky bunch because you are pretty much in the same time zone as South Africa. And finally if you live in the Americas, you are also equally lucky. There’s nothing like waking up in the morning at 7am and watch 3 games until mid-afternoon and then talk about the games with your friends at night. I’m sure that time zone is not a factor in determining whether you watch a game or not. The World Cup is the World Cup and nothing can stop you from watching your team play.

Today, we are presenting our final predictions as what will happen over the next month in South Africa. Nobody knows how the tournament will pan out. It could be another Korea/Japan where most of the big guns went home early and many teams surprised by reaching the latter stages of the tournament. Or it could be like Germany 2006 where the big guns were the only ones left standing in the quarter finals.

The one thing that we will say is that we disclaim all our predictions. This is so that anyone who bets money using our predictions is doing so at their own risk.

I still remember the moments after the 2006 final where post-World Cup depression was settling in and when we dreaded counting the amount of days left to go until the South Africa 2010. But low and behold, it’s now just over 2 weeks away.

Pressure much? There is no other sporting spectacle in the world which brings so much pressure to perform.

Over the next 2 and a half weeks, we will release our comprehensive 2010 World Cup preview to the world. Today we are proud to present our Group A Preview. Low and behold. The Sven-Goran Eriksson show is coming to a stadium near you in South Africa.

Yes, believe it or not, but the strongest African team (at least on paper and what most experts say) has chosen the most overrated and underperforming manager of recent times to be their coach at the upcoming World Cup in South Africa.

Now perhaps I’m being a bit harsh with Sven on this one. Perhaps I’m focusing too much on his recent record instead of focusing on what he has achieved throughout his managerial career.

So let’s start with the good stuff.

Sven is the only manager to have won the League and Cup doubles in 3 different countries (Sweden, Portugal and Italy) which is no mean feat by anyone.

His highly successful 4 year tenure at Lazio has led many fans to call him their most successful manager ever. What Sven will never point out is that the Lazio owner spent more than £274 million over those 4 years.

He also won the FA Summer Tournament with England in 2004.

Oh wait.

They only had to beat football powerhouses Japan and Iceland to claim the title on home ground.

Oh wait.

If you look at the tournament, they could only stumble to a draw with Japan.

Oh wait.

They only won the tournament because of a higher goal difference.

Oh wait.

Sven-Goran Eriksson is actually a terrible manager.

Ok. I think this is where the bad stuff about Sven starts.

In the 5 years he was in charge of England, his team bowed out in the quarter final stage 3 times at major tournaments.

Ok, I can forgive him for not beating the eventual champions Brazil at the 2002 World Cup. However, at both Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006, they were knocked out by powerhouse Portugal, both on penalties. And both at the quarter final stage. But England has always been bad at penalty shootouts. Is it right to blame Sven?

Yes, it’s right.

Because the performances were terrible! They were mainly snooze fests.

I clearly remember the first game against Paraguay at the 2006 World Cup where the only goal of the game was a deflected free kick from Beckham. The rest of the game was a snooze fest. Possibly the most boring game of that World Cup.

In fact, if you could list the most boring games of the 2006 World Cup, England’s games would be at the top.

And you’re talking about a team with stars and exciting players such as Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerard.

No other manager in the world could make such a group of stars play such boring and poor football.

Sven sucks!

And don’t get me started with his stint at Mexico.

Don’t get me started!

All I am going to say that Mexico simply confirmed what I suspected about Sven.

He sucks. Yes, Sven sucks!

Maradona should tell Sven to suck it. LOL

And I’m not even going to mention Notts County.

Oops, I’ve said it. Yes, no “highly successful” manager has ever gone backwards to become the Director of Football in England’s League Two.

What?!?!?!

League Two?

Sven simply does suck!

And Notts County just confirmed it.

This is why I feel sorry for Cote d’Ivoire. They have chosen the wrong coach to get the best out of them.

If Sven couldn’t get the best out of England or Mexico, then what chances does he have with Cote d’Ivoire.

I initially predicted them to get out of their tough group with Brazil, Portugal and North Korea.

However, with Sven at the helm, I predict that they will struggle to even get a point off North Korea.

Sorry, but it’s true.

And just in case I haven’t said it enough.

SVEN SUCKS!
